This policy explains what Thor accesses, which services receive information to provide app features, what stays on your device, and the choices available to you.
Information Thor accesses
Location
Thor needs a location to request weather. You may grant access to Current Location or search for locations manually. Location permission is optional, and Thor works with manually selected locations.
When Thor requests a live forecast, the selected coordinate is sent to Apple Weather through WeatherKit. Apple states that WeatherKit uses location only to provide forecasts, does not associate it with personally identifiable information, and does not track it between requests.
Historical Reference
When a location’s main Weather screen loads, Thor sends the currently viewed coordinate to Open‑Meteo to request ERA5 modeled historical weather. Thor uses the result to compare today with a 1991–2020 baseline, the same date last year, and the current year so far.
Calculated historical context is cached on your device for up to 24 hours. It is not used for alerts, widgets, iCloud Sync, background refresh, or Forecast Accuracy.
Notifications
If you enable a custom alert, official-alert delivery, or Daily Summary, Thor asks for notification permission and schedules notifications using Apple’s notification system. Thor does not request notification permission during onboarding.
Optional iCloud preference sync
If you explicitly enable iCloud Sync, Thor can sync selected preferences through your Apple iCloud account, including manual locations, a manual primary location, Weather Essentials, alert definitions, units, visible-condition settings, and appearance preferences.
Current Location, notification state, widget selections, background state, and Forecast Accuracy records are excluded from sync.
Optional Forecast Accuracy and Stability
Forecast Accuracy is off by default. If enabled, Thor stores forecast samples and later comparisons in protected on-device files for a rolling 12 months. Records use a generalized locality and never persist exact latitude or longitude. They are excluded from iCloud Sync and can be exported or deleted from Settings.
App settings, caches, and widgets
Thor stores settings, saved locations, alert rules, and useful cached forecast content on your device. Widget snapshots are stored in Thor’s private App Group container so widgets can continue showing the primary location’s last-known values.
Website and support
This website does not set its own cookies and does not use advertising or behavioral analytics. Like any hosted website, infrastructure providers may process standard request information, such as IP address and browser details, to deliver and protect the site.
If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever information you choose to include. We use that information only to respond and troubleshoot your request. Please avoid sending exact addresses or other information that is not needed.
What Thor does not do
- No Thor account is required.
- Thor does not sell personal information.
- Thor does not contain advertising.
- Thor does not track you across apps or websites.
- Thor does not use third-party behavioral analytics SDKs.
- Thor does not upload Forecast Accuracy records.
- Thor does not operate a server that continuously monitors custom alerts.
Retention and deletion
Forecast caches are refreshed, expired, and pruned automatically. Forecast Accuracy records older than 12 months expire automatically when that feature is enabled.
Thor provides controls to reset app settings and to delete Forecast Accuracy data separately. You may also delete Forecast Accuracy data for an individual generalized location. Deleting the app removes device-local app data. Data previously synced through iCloud may also need to be removed through Apple’s iCloud storage controls.
Service providers and attribution
- Apple WeatherKit provides live forecasts and official alerts.
- Open‑Meteo provides modeled historical weather used for Historical Reference under CC BY 4.0.
- Apple iCloud provides optional preference sync when you enable it.
Changes to this policy
If Thor’s data practices change, this page and its updated date will be revised before the new practices apply where required.
